The Hungerenburcht

Close to the city of 's-Hertogenbosch, along the river "Maas" and near the "Loonse and Drunense Duinen" lies the village Haarsteeg. This village is famous for its rich agriculture history which in the early beginning started with the cultivation of hops and rhubarb.

Haarsteeg is also the village of our family business, founded by my grandfather. He first started to grow vegetables, but later on also lettuce and tomatoes. In January 1989, my father made a switch to the cultivation of chrysanthemums. At the "Tuinbouwweg" he built a new company of 1.3 hectares. The new nursery was called "The Hungerenburcht". The name refers to an old building located at the Hungerenburcht, a sand drift in the old riverbed of the "Maas". Recently, during archaeological excavations the remains of an old castle wall were found.

In 1995 the nursery expanded to 2.6 acres of glass and I (Alexander van Delft) stepped into the company. The Hungerenburcht is specialized in growing a wide range of spray chrysanthemums as well as Santini's. This occurs in two separate growing areas so that optimal growing conditions are guaranteed. Our passion is to succeed in the market of chrysanthemum varieties that are a bit more difficult to grow than the "normal" species. Beside that a well kept presentation of the product is our top priority. In 2010 we successfully introduced the red chrysanthemum 'Merlot'.

The Hungerenburcht aims to sell at wholesale as well as to cash and carry business. We are a reliable partner that strives for daily supply at the Flora Holland veil system as well as providing customized products directly to ens-users. Participation in the Quality Flower Group increased understanding of the needs of trading companies and their end customers. Because of the extensive promotional opportunities within the Quality Flower Group, we are better able to adjust production if needed!
